Days that end in -y are always better when The Funnel Bar hosts a pop-up. I’ve eaten A LOT of funnel cake from The Funnel Bar since they launched in 2017, so it’s only right that I share my favorite funnel cakes for #NationalFunnelCakeDay (it’s a thing, so let’s go with it!)

Funnel cake used to be one of those treats I’d only indulge in during Houston Rodeo season or when I’d visit other Texas state fairs. Fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar and your choice of strawberries, caramel or chocolate? Could it really get any better? Well, yes it could!

Enter: The Funnel Bar.

Sure, The Funnel Bar serves “traditional” funnel cake with powdered sugar (“Sugar Momma”) but they take it ten steps further with creations that include goodies like cheesecake bites, cookie butter, ice cream, and even peach cobbler! I’ve never had a bad funnel cake from The Funnel Bar, but here are a few of my favorites:

Simone’s Cobbler

Named after one of The Funnel Bar’s owners, Simone’s Cobbler is legendary! Funnel cake topped with vanilla ice cream, homemade peach cobbler and cinnamon sugar – yes, please.

The Cookie Monster funnel cake is my absolute favorite pick at The Funnel Bar! Blue funnel cake topped with cookies and cream ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate chips, then drizzled with chocolate hard shell and… COOKIE BUTTER. Yes, that deliciously sinful spread made from Biscoff cookies. Frequent flyers know what’s up when it comes to these iconic plane treats. Anyway, I hope this one stays on the menu forever!

Strawberry Princess

The Funnel Bar’s Strawberry Princess funnel cake is my mommy’s favorite pick (hi, mom!) Funnel cake topped with fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and strawberry syrup. If I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll sub the strawberry syrup for caramel. Yum!

If you want to take it up a notch, check out the Strawberry Cheesecake option with cheesecake bites or the Strawberry Queen, which comes with strawberry ice cream.

Praline Supreme

This is one of The Funnel Bar’s many specialty funnel cakes featuring pralines and cream ice cream, praline pecan pieces, whipped cream and caramel drizzle.

Queen Kong

The companion to The Funnel Bar’s King Kong, the Queen Kong features banana pudding on a classic funnel cake that’s drizzled with caramel, then finished with fresh, sliced strawberries. Dessert on dessert for the ultimate win! If The Funnel Bar sold the banana pudding as it’s own dessert, I wouldn’t be mad at it. In fact, I’d order by the tub.

Pivoting

While Sunday Funday activities are cancelled for the foreseeable future, The Funnel Bar knows we still need our funnel cake fix, so they implemented a pre-order system that includes contact-less pickup. I’ve ordered this way several times and it’s pretty simple: Pre-Order. Arrive at your designated time. Receive your funnel cake. Enjoy your funnel cake!

Final Thoughts on The Funnel Bar

I made a list of my favorite funnel cakes so it’s pretty obvious that I love The Funnel Bar! This list includes five of MY favorites, but you can’t go wrong with whichever funnel cake you choose. Follow The Funnel Bar on Instagram so you can keep track of their pop up schedule. Like they say, “Life’s short, eat dessert first!”

Do you like funnel cake?

Would you try funnel cakes like these? If so, when you’re in Houston, be sure to check out The Funnel Bar and my other favorite Backyard Gems.
