I visited during their Juneteenth re-opening and the entire staff – from receptionists, docents, and the gift shop cashier – were all welcoming and helpful as I navigated through the exhibits.

All of the family-friendly exhibits are great, but the Buffalo Solider re-enactment – an explosive first-person narrative that takes audiences back to late 1800’s- is an absolute can’t-miss!

I’m the daughter of US Army veterans. I grew up on military bases, curled up in their offices with coloring books while my parents proudly served their country. As an adult, the stories about their lives during military service helped me see them beyond their roles as my parents. Seeing similar stories highlighted throughout the exhibits made me appreciate the Buffalo Soldier National Museum’s dedication to preserving the narratives of Black soldiers and honoring their contributions as the American history it is.
